GERLAN & AUSTRIAN FIRLS IN HONGKONG.

We have been officially informed that the Government in

Hongkong have appointed British Merchants to liquidate the businesses

of all German and Austrian firms there,

We have no knowledge as to the reason for this strong

action being taken, but it is one which we feel sure will involve

British firms on this side in serious losses. We therefore venture

to address you on this matter as follows.-

The liquidation of the businesses by the appointment of

Liquidators with no previous knowledge of contracts entered into

with the Native buyers, together with disposal of unsold goods at

Liquidators discretion, will naturally not yield such a satisfactory

result as if left in the hands of the original Contractor, in fact,

before the appointment of Liquidators by the Hongkong Government we

had evidence that our customers there had already serious difficulty

with their Native buyers in securing their adherence to contracte

entered into before War was declared, and since the appointment of

Liquidators this difficulty will have been accentuated.
